Dark Verse

(Dangerous Duets Part Three)

Raven Dexter’s world is dictated by the rhythms of behind-the-scenes stage life—the call of a cue, the rise and fall of spot lights, and the constant buzz of sound systems and instruments. She’s the quiet pulse behind every flawless show, the one who makes sure the performers are paid and the crowd gets their money’s worth. Love has always been a distant melody. Something meant for other people, other lives.

Knox Knight is trying to claw his way back to life after everything went wrong. Still recovering, he steps back onto the stage, unsure if he belongs in the spotlight anymore. Even as they clash, Raven quickly discovers that behind the reckless reputation is a man weighed down by grief, guilt, and the fear that it’s already too late for him.

Forced together under the harsh glare and attention of center stage, something builds between them. Slow at first, like the opening bars of a song, then louder, fuller, dynamic. Impossible to ignore.

But not everyone is rooting for their harmony.

As the music between them crescendos, so does the danger around them. Because some people don’t just listen to the music. They want to control how it ends. For Raven and Knox, the final note might not fade out—it might be cut short.
